Ash trees have an “opposite” orientation of leaf buds and stems. They look like old-style tv-antennas.

The bark has a diamond pattern.

Ash trees are rather late putting out their leaves. Actually, that makes them easier to locate because they appear more bare when other trees already have a green-ish cast.
